Design: The Canon Vixia HF100 is a matte-gray compact camcorder that weighs in at 15.1 ounces with the battery. Measuring 2.9 by 2.5 by 5.1 inches the camcorder is small and light enough to fit into a large jacket pocket. The controls are large and easy to use. The camcorder has a brilliant 2.7″ LCD display.
Specifications: Packing a smaller 1/3.2-inch 3.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and optically stabilized f1.8-3.0 12X optical zoom, the Canon Vixia HF100 records AVCHD video at a maximum of 17MBps. This is about 2 hours and 5 minutes of video and up to 6 hours and 5 minutes on 5MBps. Lacking a built-in memory, the camcorder comes with a SDHC card slot. The higher bit rate supports the full 1920×1080 HD video and works well with Class 4 SDHC memory cards. Connection-wise the camcorder offers component or mini-HDMI out ports, a mini headphone jack, microphone jack, and a USB port.

The lens focuses quite quickly, with the SuperRange optical image stabilization system working well. It can hold a lock in both dimmer and brighter lighting conditions with sharp images. The camcorder uses an 890mAh battery that offers about 55 minutes of typical recording time. Video looks properly exposed, nicely saturated and sharp.
